To enjoy, or not to enjoy... ?

I'm so confused.

I once really loved fashion and all I knew that came with it, the styles, the cuts, the aesthetics,

the originality, where the inspiration came from, the models, the hair, the make-up, the jewelry, the polished look, the relaxed look, the experiments, oh the experiments.

I want to be able to be excited about it again but feel I can't be because of how so damn awful the industry is. I don't know the ins and outs of the goings on like which designers use sweat shops and which don't, which use organic fabrics (not a lot is all I know) and which don't, but I know enough to know that we can never reeeally know where our clothes are coming from. It's putting me off and I dOn't like it.

I've been watching lots of oldy films and programmes recently where people are dressed to the nines in the fashions of the time, looking absolutely exquisite, and I would so love to be doing that right now with our current trends, but I have nooo idea who is good and who is not... ethically speaking.

I want to get excited about fashion again but don't know where to start if my morals will only let me be enchanted by the ethical side... hmmm.

Do I still enjoy the pictures and the people wearing it even though I know where it shouldn't have come from, or do I stand my ground and go completely against it knowing that things will not be changing super dramatically within couture any time soon.

Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyy am I doing a Fashion degree?

I think i'm going to have to get back to myself on this one.

I'm doing research for my current project...

To choose a spa/retreat/health farm etc and design a range of yoga wear specifically for that spa.

We have to make a top and a bottom, and hand in all the research that goes with it.

A side effect of feeling completely unmotivated to do anything at the minute, is that all my work is boiling up to nothing, all I have are my ideas...

I've chosen Charlton House Spa and Hotel...

... as the spa of my choice, as they hand make their own products that they use in their treatments so they're all completely natural and organic. I also chose it because the transformation of a big country manor house into a spa keeps up income for the house to be kept and not just left to ruin. It's also in England, most people hear spa and think... sun... sea... sand. But doesn't that defeat the whole object of a spa. You go to detox and relax. I don't see travelling hours over the ocean creating thousands of C02 emmisions detoxing, or relaxing.

So anyway, to keep up with the ethos this spa has i'm designing my range based around wrapping yourself in natural and organic things, looking after yourself, so, bamboo fabric here I come.

I've sent off for some samples of this fabric, it's perfect for sportswear as it's antibacterial.

Aaanyway, my point was, this is all I have, ideas, and i'm struggling so hard to put them onto paper in a way that is beautiful and informative. I used to love sketchbooking, now I just want to rip them up.

In my frustration and after i'd stopped thinking it was all pointless I decided to get some ideas. I absolutely LoVe noseying through peoples sketchbook, seeing how they decorate a page, how they write on it, how much they write, how little they write, sketches they draw, swatches they put in, how they use them, how bulgy and massive and spine broken they get.

I found some beautiful images of sketchbooks that have been created for all different reason...

They're just so beautiful. I especially love the first and the last pictures. So packed, yet could be so simple.

I feel slightly more motivated... hopefully I can turn mine into something pretty to look through now instead of it just being magazine pages and my boring writing.

Back to it.

So... I haven't posted anything on here for ages because, I, could not, be, bothered.

I'm not enjoying my course at uni and have no motivation to start the new brief we've been given, OR, to do anything else.

I've had my crit for the denim project and seeing as though I did a months worth of work in 2 weeks (sleep deprivation came into play as the flat above would not shUt up until 4am every morning the week of my deadline) it went pretty well. I was chosen to present my work to Lee cooper.

This is also confusing me seeing as I have no respect for their brand, aesthetically and ethically. Yet i'm supposed to be excited enough to present my jeans and a slideshow to them.

I've been so unmotivated to do literally anything recently but bumped into a photographer friend the other day who is looking to start enjoying his work again rather than the photography degree being the bane of his life (like everyone else is feeling at the minute) so has said he'll gladly shoot my jeans, photos coming soon then I hope!!

So for now let me say how, slightly excited, which is a good amount as I haven't been excited about anything in ages, I am to have discovered the John Patrick Organic range. I found him on
